Who needs the Ohio Boater Education Card?

All boaters born after December 31, 1981 must have an Ohio Boater Education Certificate to operate any motorized watercraft over 10 HP. BOATERexam.com® is a delegated provider for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Watercraft.

Replacement Ohio Boater Education Card

If your Ohio Boater Education Card is lost or damaged, you can contact the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Watercraft to get a replacement card.

Simply call any of the field offices or email watercraft@dnr.state.oh.us with the following information:

  • Your full name as it appears on your Boater Education Card
  • Your date of birth
  • Your current address and phone number

It will take 10 to 15 working days to receive your new card, depending on when the next batch of cards will be created.

If you need a replacement card immediately, you can contact any of the ODNR Parks & Watercraft Division offices during regular work hours. A temporary certificate will be faxed to you to use until the permanent card arrives in the mail.

Ohio Boating License or Boater Education Card... Is there a difference?

The boater education card is proof that you have successfully completed a boating safety course. The boater education card does not expire and does not need to be renewed. Therefore, it is NOT a Ohio Boating License!
