North Carolina Boater Safety Course
Any person born on or after January 1, 1988, must successfully complete a NASBLA-approved boating education course before operating any vessel propelled by a motor of 10 hp or greater.
Personal Watercraft (PWC) Age Requirements
- There is a minimum age requirement of 14 years old, for those who wish to operate a PWC
- All boaters who are at least 14 years old but less than 16, may operate a PWC only if they are under the direct supervision of a person who is either 18 years of age or older; or if they have successfully completed an approved boating safety education course
- No one under the age of 16 may rent a PWC unless they have successfully completed an approved boating safety education course and are at least 14 years of age
- Proof of age and safety course certificate must be with the youth during the operation of the PWC
